A Pan-African Journey: HAEC-3GC St. Croix Experience

St. Croix offers a unique opportunity to experience a beautiful and diverse culture while remaining within U.S. territory. The island provides a powerful setting for exploring how African heritage, traditions, and identity have endured across generations and continue to influence communities throughout the African Diaspora.

The HAEC-3GC Alternative Spring Break invites HBCU and Allied Institution scholars to move beyond traditional Spring Break experiences and engage with real community needs. Through service-learning, cultural exchange, professional engagement, and meaningful conversations, participants will connect their academic interests with opportunities to contribute to mental wellness, social work, agriculture, and education.

Academic Learning

Connect your academic interests to real-world community needs through engagement with counseling and social work organizations, agriculture initiatives, and educational institutions. Explore how professionals and community leaders are addressing challenges and creating opportunities on the island.

Cultural Immersion

Experience St. Croix through activities such as a Mokojumbies workshop and the St. Croix Black Food Tour. Discover the island's cultural traditions, food heritage, and living expressions of African identity.

What Participants Want to Know

1What is the cost of the program?

The program cost is $4,000. Additional information about what is included in the program fee will be provided to participants during the application and preparation process.

2Do I need a passport to travel to St. Croix?

No passport is required for eligible U.S. travelers because St. Croix is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Participants should carry a valid government-issued form of identification and confirm their specific travel documentation requirements before departure.

3Where will we stay?

Participants will stay in hotels during the program.

4Who can participate in the St. Croix program?

The program is designed for current undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students, particularly students interested in psychology, social work, counseling, agribusiness, and related fields.

5What will we do during Alternative Spring Break?

Participants will combine service-learning, cultural immersion, professional engagement, and networking.
