The HBCU Africa Education Coalition (HAEC)

HAEC aims to eliminate the disparity of access to study-abroad opportunities on the continent of Africa and its Diaspora. Through the 100,000 Strong Africa Initiative, the Coalition will leverage a Pan African Study Abroad Model to facilitate access to improve study abroad opportunities among students of African descent.

Last summer, I joined Morgan State University and HAEC's study abroad program in Ghana, an unforgettable experience that deepened my cultural understanding. We visited historical sites, advised students on studying abroad, and engaged in service-learning with local schools. The program fostered lasting friendships and enriched my global perspective—highly recommended.

HAEC has given me the opportunity to evolve not only in my leadership but also in my awareness of my history and how to connect who I am and whose I am to my everyday life. I would not replace this experience for anything.

I loved and cherished every moment of being able to explore, gain knowledge and connect with my ancestral roots while also building a community of supportive HBCU students from across the US.

I love my experience with HAEC. Going back to the Motherland, let alone Ghana, was an amazing experience for me to learn more about my African-American heritage. Dr. Bev, Mr. Brinkley, and Dr. E were amazing figures that gave us a lot of guidance and assistance throughout the program! I highly recommend this for any other HBCU student!

Having the opportunity to travel to Accra, Ghana, for study abroad was one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had in my undergraduate experience! I was able to immerse myself into Ghanaian culture for three weeks and it was something I'd never forget. I'm so grateful to have been able to learn more about the language, history, cuisine and social aspects of Ghana and I would always recommend for others to take the chance of changing your life with HAEC. Special thanks to Auntie Bev!
